Microchip and ID Check: Is Your Pet’s Information Current?

Summer means more walks, patio time, travel, and activity near open doors and windows. Before your next adventure, take a few minutes to check your pet’s identification.

Check Their Collar and Tag

Make sure your pet’s collar fits properly and their ID tag is easy to read. The tag should include a current phone number.

Replace tags that are scratched or faded. Cats should wear a properly fitted breakaway collar designed to release if it becomes caught.

Review Their Microchip Information

A microchip provides permanent identification, but it is not a GPS tracker. When a veterinary hospital or shelter scans the chip, they use its identification number to locate the registration company and contact the pet owner.

A microchip is most helpful when it is registered and connected to your current information. Review the registration whenever you change your:

• Phone number
• Home address
• Email address
• Emergency contact
