FUN STAFF FACTS
Dr. Lopez grew up in Puerto Rico and is bi-lingual English and Spanish. In elementary school, she regularly competed in a pre-Thanksgiving race – winning the grand prize three times – a whole turkey for Thanksgiving dinner!
Like many veterinarians, Dr. Lopez first became interested in veterinary medicine as a child. A family friend had a veterinary practice walking distance from her home and often allowed her to “shadow” them, watching surgeries and other medical care for pets. Her fascination with veterinary medicine progressed to also include an interest in the lifelong relationships people form with their pets.
As a Fear Free Certified Professional, Dr. Lopez uses fear free methods to help provide the highest quality medical care for her patients. She seeks to be a trusted ally for her patients and their owners. Her priority is to find the best care options for each patient and their family, helping the animal live its best life.
Dr. Lopez earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science at University of Georgia. Her experience includes providing supportive care to patients in the intensive care unit at North Carolina State Veterinary Hospital and serving as a student ambassador for a pet nutrition company. She has a strong interest in internal medicine, surgery, and nutrition. The co-founder of the Latinx Veterinary Medical Association Chapter at her school, Dr. Lopez is passionate about eliminating the language barrier between Hispanic pet owners and veterinarians.
Dr. Lopez enjoys traveling, rock climbing and trying out new restaurants with her fiancé. She also enjoys time at the beach with her dogs, Luke, who has been with Dr. Lopez since her third year of college, and Georgia, a miniature Schnauzer. One of her favorite quotes, which applies to her work in veterinary medicine, is from Apple Founder, Steve Jobs: “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
